LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of a petition challenging the acceptance of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Babar Awan’s nomination papers for senate elections.

The hearing was adjourned till March 1 as Awan’s lawyer failed to appear before the court.

Justice Umar Ata Bandyal ordered Awan to submit his reply on March 1, as the senate elections will begin from March 2. The court also asked why Awan came to the court as he was not summoned personally.

The petition states that Awan has assets not accounted for in his income tax returns, adding that he was not paying agriculture income tax despite holding agriculture land and equipment worth millions of rupees.
