RAHIM YAR KHAN: The National Data Registration Authority (Nadra) officials took notice of a news story published in The Express Tribune about Burewala resident Hasina Bibi who was denied a CNIC and ordered Nadra General Manager Multan Region Lieutenant Colonel Muhmmad Safdar to look into the matter.

The woman, who claims to be just 1.75-foot tall, had moved the court against the Nadra for not providing her with a CNIC.

Nadra had not issued a CNIC to Hasina earlier because “her finger prints were too small.”

Farrukh Basher, local Nadra official however said that she will now be issued a CNIC. “We have completed her registration process as instructed by Lt Col Safdar,” he said.

While talking to The Express Tribune, Hasina said that she was trying to get a CNIC so that she can register herself for the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP). “The registration which could not be completed in the last two years because my fingers were very small, was completed today only in one hour,” Hasina said. “I am thankful to media,” she added.

She further requested President Asif Ali Zardari for helping her register for BISP.

“I sew as much as my physical capabilities allow me to and hence getting BISP aid will be a blessing for me,” she said.

Advocate Rukhsana Pia, who voluntarily offered her services to Hasina, along with Hasina’s mother, thanked media for highlighting her client’s issue. “Without going through court proceedings, we were able to resolve our problem,” Pia said.

Deputy Regional Manager Multan Nadra said that the authority was not trying to ignore Hasina but were dealing her accordingly as she has a problem as per our legal registration process.

“We cannot violate our rules of registration process and we also do not have any authority to do so,” he said.

“Such requests are addressed by executives in Islamabad, who have the authority to respond to cases of extra ordinary conditions,” he added.

There should be a way for disabled people to register for CNIC's. This is nothing extraordinary, Instead of wasting tax payers money on expensive cars, fuel and electricity. Our government officials should work to help facilitate our people.
