KARACHI:
The Rescue 15 service of the Sindh police got its first much-needed shot in the arm on Thursday when Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Shah inaugurated a fully equipped centre in Korangi Industrial Area on Thursday.
This is one of the 20 centres being planned across the city. They will be manned by at least 45 personnel working round the clock in three shifts of 15 men each. They will be equipped with a dedicated police mobile van and four motorcycles.
Previously, when a person called the 15 rescue service with a complaint, it would be received by an operator at the Central Police Office, who would then look for the relevant police station and then pass on the information.
This usually caused a huge delay and by the time the police would arrive at a crime scene, for example, on a report of a house being robbed, it would be too late.
It is being hoped that with the decentralisation of the service and fully equipped centres across the city, the reaction time would be brought down to just five minutes.
Out of the 20 centres, 15, including one each in Defence, Jackson, North Nazimabad, are expected to be up and running by the end of this month.
