Heroin smuggling attempt foiled

ISLAMABAD: An attempt to smuggle a huge amount of heroin to the United Kingdom was foiled on Tuesday.

According to Collector Model Customs Collectorate Sarwat Tahira Habib, 19 kg of heroin worth Rs100 million was seized. The drugs were concealed in polythene packets glued to the inner paperboard of cloth rolls. According to details, this is the largest amount of heroin that has been recovered by the customs office during the current year. Talking to a group of journalists on Tuesday, Habib said that the cache of heroin was recovered from a cargo godown near Benazir Bhutto International Airport.

She said that a team of customs collectorate carried out a search operation on the godown after receiving an anonymous tip. She added that customs have received another tipoff that a large quantity of heroin will be smuggled to the United Kingdom through air freight soon and are monitoring all consignments closely.
