FAISALABAD:

Flour mill owners have demanded an increase in the prices of 20-kilogramme (kg) flour bags by Rs50 to Rs65.

Flour Mills Association and the Food Secretary Punjab has been informed about the contention of the flourmills owners while a summary for the increase in flour prices will also be sent to chief minister Punjab very soon.

At present, the 20 kg flour bag is available in the market for Rs550-560, while after the increase of Rs50-65, it will be available at Rs600-625. Flour mill owners say that the government had fixed wheat price at Rs1,000 per 40 kg while other expenses including transportation, etcetera make the price of 40 kg wheat at Rs1,030. The owners said that when wheat is ground in flourmills to convert it into flour, prices rise further due to which they cannot bear the supply of 20 kg flour bag at Rs550-560.

Flour mill owners further said that if the government does not want to increase the price of flour, it should reduce the price of wheat to Rs975 per 40 kg.
