PESHAWAR: A number of items, being transferred to North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) forces in Afghanistan, have been recovered from a warehouse in Peshawar.

The items include several radiators, around 50 tyres of different sizes, tank equipment and communication tools.

According to reports, unidentified man had hijacked Nato oil tankers and stored the items in Peshawar. They had also established a tank where the stolen oil was stored and was being sent to local petrol pumps.

The items, some with International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) stickers on them, were being transferred to different parts of the province.

Police officer Sajjad Ahmed said that the Station House Officer (SHO) had received tips about the area, after which the police had conducted a raid. Several people were arrested and two stolen oil containers were shifted to the Chamkani Police Station.

Earlier, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said that Customs Collectorate Quetta had reported that many Nato containers were found missing from the official record.

The FBR had initially sent a list of almost 13,000 containers to Quetta after finding that the transportation documents of these containers were either missing or incomplete.

Nato and the US have over recent years found alternative routes to supply foreign troops in Afghanistan, including routes through central Asia. However, most supplies for the forces, which number around 140,000, still go through Pakistan.

Earlier, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said that Customs Collectorate Quetta had reported that many Nato containers were found missing from the official record. but...... an official on the basis of anonymity while talking to Express Tribune just a few moments earlier said, the department in Quetta received a latter in January/February 2011, from the British High Commission saying they have received all the dispatched items in Afghanistan..,,nothing is missing... why the difference between the statements of FBR and British High Commission...????
