FAISALABAD: An 18-year-old boy was arrested on Monday on charges of murdering his nine-year-old brother in a village near Jaranwala after criminally assaulting him, police said. He will be produced before a judicial magistrate on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in village 104-GB. Farmers working in a field spotted the boy’s body and informed the police, who shifted it to the Civil Hospital in Jaranwala for a post-mortem examination.

Police said they had taken the elder brother, Azam Tariq, into custody when he acted in a suspicious manner.

He was shifted to a police station, where he confessed to his crime during preliminary interrogation.

The accused, police said, had signed a statement in which he confessed he had criminally assaulted his younger brother, Tariq*, in the field where his body was found.

He said he had strangulated the boy when he threatened to inform their father that he had assaulted him.

The in-charge of the Ali Pur police post, Sabir Ai, who arrested the accused said a case had been registered under Section 302 and 367-A, which deals with charges of killing, committing molestation and abduction, on the complaint filed by the deceased’s grandfather Ayaz A*.
