The grave allegations continue to trickle in as Zulfiqar Mirza’s travelling political spectacle gains popular momentum.
At a massive public gathering in Lyari on Friday, the former home minister claimed he had apprehended target killers from ‘sector offices’ with heavy arms and ammunition but had to release them on Rehman Malik’s orders.
In a fiery speech at the end of a several-hour-long rally across the city, Mirza alleged that Malik had warned him that the army and the Inter-Services Intelligence would topple the government if target killers were arrested.
“I released the killers because I wanted to see Pakistan flourish,” Mirza said to an enthralled audience.
Calling the federal interior minister a “Jewish and an American agent working to destroy Pakistan,” Mirza said Malik’s “drama would continue until the disintegration of Pakistan.”
Malik used to misinform Benazir Bhutto earlier and he is doing the same with the president and prime minister now, Mirza alleged.
In a brazen call to arms, Mirza said he was ‘proud’ to have issued 300,000 weapon licences during his tenure.
“I gave the arms licences to the people of Karachi, not for aerial firing at wedding ceremonies but for times like these when no one is safe,” he said.
Expletives galore
Mirza’s public gathering in Lyari, termed the largest since Benazir’s rally in the area in 1987, was also addressed by chief of Sindh Nationalist Party (SNP) Ameer Bhumbhro and key leaders of the defunct People’s Amn Committee Uzair and Zafar Baloch.
Bhumbhro’s platitudes were followed by an initially-hesitant Zafar Baloch who went on to deliver an expletive-laden tirade against dictators, Rehman Malik and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). Uzair Baloch followed, expressing his dissatisfaction at the provincial PPP leadership for conducting an operation in Lyari.
He also blamed former MNA Nabeel Gabol, elected from Lyari, for the negative image of the area.
Procession to Lyari
Earlier in the day, Mirza was taken to Lyari from Bin Qasim town in a massive procession organised by his followers – who were armed to the teeth and displayed automatic weapons openly.
Supporters bearing flags of SNP, Awami National Party, Punjabi Pukhtoon Ittehad (PPI) and the PPP accompanied the procession.
The procession reached the venue, Chakiwara Chowk in Lyari, around 8pm.
Invoking ethnic sentiments
Earlier, playing to the gallery in his home constituency, Mirza said the “time has gone when Sindhis were killed … the soldiers of Benazir Bhutto will not let this happen [any more].”
“For every innocent life taken in Karachi, five looters and terrorists would be killed,” Mirza said while addressing a press conference at his residence in Badin.
“I have given courage to millions of people to speak up and stand against the tyranny,” he said, and appealed to ‘the people of Sindh’ to use [arms] to save Pakistan’.

Anti-MQM diatribe
Continuing his tirade against the MQM, Mirza said reconciliation is ‘not possible with a political party that is trying to break Pakistan.’
He admitted to sponsoring a website where ‘all evidence against the MQM will be uploaded.’
“I am yet to unveil 90 percent of the information I have,” he said.

“Ishratul Ebad is the most corrupt governor the province ever had,” Mirza alleged, adding that chairman Malir Development Authority had admitted during an investigation that Ebad was his partner in the project and was allotted 27,000 plots in the scheme.
He added that he had turned down MQM’s request for inducting 6,000 ‘criminals’ in the police force.
Friendly fire
Turning the guns against his former colleagues, Mirza criticised Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah for promptly accepting his resignation, saying the speed negated the general impression that Shah was a lazy person.
Mirza also said he would expose the name of the “airhostess” for whom Rehman Malik visits Karachi frequently.
Earlier, Malik had directed Inspector General Sindh Police to depute a senior officer to protect Mirza’s rally. Bringing out a rally is a right of every citizen or political leader and it was the duty of law enforcers to protect them, Malik had said.

Federal Interior Minister’s “crimes” may be many, but all could be forgiven for his one gift to the nation: he has made Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza unveil his misdeeds. The more Dr. Mirza speaks the deeper he is digging his rightful place. But we are all holding our breaths for the most explosive revelation of all: “the name of the “airhostess” for whom Rehman Malik visits Karachi frequently.” Now, that one accomplishment will make him worthy of the Nishan e Imtiaz, or whatever it was that he was awarded, by President Zardar couple of weeks ago. Did’nt Dr. Malik recently said that 70 to 80 percent responsibility of Karachi’s mayhem lied on the shoulders of “wives and girlfriends?” Oh, how stupid we all are for not truly understanding what he really meant. I find his style repulsive but the substance should not be dismissed only because it comes from him. His allegations are serious enough that they need to be investigated. They may be false and that can only be known after due investigation.
Again the issue here is not that he made the allegations while putting his hand on the Quran. All people who give false witness in the Pakistani courts for a few thousand rupees do exactly this. What lends gravity is the fact that he is a former provincial interior minister and claims to have records to back his allegations.
While people in MQM are innocent until proven guilty, to dismiss what this man says as being his personal opinion is not correct.

An immediate action which Wassan and Rehman must take without any loss of time is to

I am beginning to be convinced that this sudden display of faith and concern for the common man by Dr Mirza is nothing but a cover for ulterior motives. If Dr Mirza is so bent upon getting the populace justice, let me see him go voluntarily to the Supreme Court with the evidence that he claims to have. Being Sindh’s home minister for the last three year, it is reasonable to assume that Dr Mirza oversaw all the high handedness that he now conveniently attributes to MQM and Rehman Malik; Dr Mirza deserves to be prosecuted for his incriminating silent condonement of all that he blames MQM for.Recommend

Its strange, Mirza Sb himself is disclosing the injustice against people of Pakistan who probably support certain party by not giving them any job. It means, has he given to 10,00 jobs in Sindh to his people? I don’t know whether supreme court should notice of allegations by Mirza or Mirza himself and his assets and decision made by him during his time as a home minister.One must think, how could a son of simple and honest judge have got sugar mill and houses and bungalows in places like DHA. Just to remind, there are only 80-90 sugar mills in whole Pakistan. How could a doctor who got a degree by cheating (acknowledge himself in his first PC) got his own sugar mill? I think, all politicians needs to be investigated and specially people like Zulfiqar Mirza who them selves disclosing their assets and trying to create never ending fight among Pakistanis by igniting fire on the basis of sect, race and tribe. Mirza has himself said that whatever he has revealed is just 10% of what all he knows. He must respond to the call of his conscience and muster courage to make discloures about the misdeeds of his own leadership. If at all he has decided to be the real son of the soil then his loyalties, first of all should be with Pakistan and then with Zardari or anybody else. Instead of shouting at lesser mortals Mirza should unveil the faces of real culprits. He wants to make his name in the history then should make disclousures about the corruption and crimes of his own party. Mirza may be telling a slanted truth as we do quite often in our Islamic society.But where is our good old Pir Mazhar-ul-Haque? in whose ceremonious presence MQM chief expressed US and his common resolve to undo Pakistan?
Mirza claims that he has issued three lac arms licenses in his three year stint in office, apparently for self defence purpose to Sindhi as well as decent non-Sindhi voters and hence, results of this largesse are for all of us to see.
He reverberates his fear of read-Indianization of original Sindhis– a fear first expressed by his guru Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto– while ignoring the fact that his PPP then won its sole majority in the Punjab Province.What a disgrace in our society that we cannot argue matters on their intrinsic merit and free from parochial jingoism.

My Dears, the arms license(s) are given and can be given to anyone in pakistan for their own safety, e.g, from taliban militants attack or others since the talibans have limitless weapons~ they have been somehow smuggled to karachi in large quantity~ we can do nothing about that~so to counter,save and protect their own self in case of mischief the license are provided.

Trbiune reporting was not so objective. It was interspersed with anti-Mirza tinge. We should not forget that Mirza is making allegations on oath. Those against whom he made allegations must reply. So far they have been parrying the allegations instead of taking them headon. The bloggers too focus on periphery. They do not focus the bull’s eye.
