FAISALABAD:

Two men stoned a rickshaw driver to death in a public square for overcharging.

According to police officials, the incident occurred near the Millat Town Police station on Tuesday morning, when two men repeatedly bludgeoned a rickshaw driver with stones until he died.

According to eyewitnesses, dozens of people saw New Green Town resident rickshaw driver Ghulam Mustafa argue with Rauza Pak residents Usman and Ghulam Abbas. “They were arguing over fare. The two men refused to pay him the amount they had agreed on when they got in the rickshaw. Suddenly one of them began throwing stones at him,” Mansoorabad resident Hashim said.

Eyewitnesses told police that Mustafa was murdered near Ghona Park.

“We eventually managed to stop the two men but by then they had split his head open with a brick,” said commuter Rohail. “We held them back but they later escaped while we were trying to revive the driver,” he added. Police officials have taken the body into custody and sent it for an autopsy to Allied Hospital. Police officials said that they had registered a case against the accused but the men had managed to escape. Police officials are searching for the accused.
