ISLAMABAD: A civil court in Islamabad sent the Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Anjum Aqeel on one-day transit remand on Sunday, after he surrendered himself at the Kohsar Police Station in Islamabad late on Saturday.

The MNA will be presented in an anti-terrorism court on Monday.

According to sources, Aqeel was forced to surrender on the insistence of his party leadership.

He was arrested by the police in the Rs6 billion National Police Foundation land scam case on Friday, but some armed PML-N workers attacked the police vehicle he was being carried in and got him freed.

Aqeel faces four charges of fraud and may also face another criminal charge of absconding from police custody.

Following his escape, a civil judge on Saturday declared him proclaimed offender.
