Adnan Sami Khan is in trouble again. The India-based Pakistani singer is not allowed to leave the country. On Thursday, June 2, the Mumbai sessions court rejected his plea to travel overseas for one-and-a-half months to perform. The restriction comes in connection with a case of domestic violence filed by Khan’s ex-wife Sabah Galadari, reported Hindustan Times.
Khan will now have to approach the Bombay High Court to seek permission.
The singer had earlier forwarded six similar applications for which permission was granted, letting him perform in Dubai, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa between June 8 and July 25 this year.
What caused the rejection this time was that Khan had allegedly breached an earlier permission by travelling to Canada when he was only allowed to travel to Dubai.
Opposing the singer’s application in the sessions court, public prosecutor Mohan Sawant said that there was a possibility that Khan might not return and since India has no extradition treaty with Pakistan, it could be difficult to get him back, Times of India reported.
Khan defended his case, saying there was no chance of him absconding, as his apartment in India had been confiscated by the Indian government.
The Enforcement Directorate in India confiscated eight properties and five parking spaces belonging to the singer under the Foreign Exchange Management Act. According to the law, a foreign national cannot acquire immovable property in India (other than on lease, not exceeding five years).
