The police have arrested a woman who was allegedly involved in the murder of a private bank’s branch manager.
The three-day-old body of the manager, Khawaja Rubab, was found in his car in Nazimabad on March 29. He used to live in Shah Faisal Colony. The Shah Faisal police said that 22-year-old Tooba from Gulberg was apprehended at her cousin’s flat in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
They caught the accused with the help of footage from closed-circuit cameras installed at a Makro cash-and-carry where Tooba was found using the victim’s ATM card that went missing when he was killed.
Investigation officer Javaid told The Express Tribune that Tooba is a professional con-artist. “She and her accomplices would make friends with men while they are shopping in busy markets and then cheat them,” the officer explained. “She got to know the victim at the Millennium Shopping Centre in Gulshan-e-Iqbal about four months before the murder.”
“She tried to save herself by accusing others,” said the officer. “She blamed her cousin, Sawera and her boyfriend, Jamil alias Jimmy, claiming that they killed the manager in her absence.”
The officer quoted from Tooba’s statement: “I was not present when they killed him. I was out shopping. He wanted to make ‘friendship’ with my cousin. My cousin told me that she would be ready for friendship if he gave her a smart amount. Then, I took him to Sewara’s house where her boyfriend Jamil was present. I do not know what happened there because I went out shopping and the victim was not there when I came back. They told me that he had left for home. I had no idea about the murder.”
The officer felt that the statement was ambiguous. “How it is possible that she was unaware of the incident?” he asked. “In my opinion, she also helped kill the victim as she had withdrawn over Rs150,000 with his ATM card.”
Javaid felt that perhaps Rubab realised that his new friends were charlatans and had tried to escape, upon which they strangled him. Rubab’s brother, Arbab, registered an FIR, No. 103/11, at the Shah Faisal police station. Javaid is sure that Tooba knows where her accomplices are and will eventually tell the police.
