FAISALABAD:
A row between two student groups of National Textile University (NTU) resulted in police arresting 28 students on Saturday.
Police officials booked the students under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and sealed all the hostels after vacating students on Friday night.
A heavy police contingent led by Nishatabad District Superintendent Police (DSP) Malik Khalid Awan raided the campus after receiving a written complaint from the NTU administration.
The arrested students were shifted to the Millat Town Police Station where they were booked disrupting the peace, firing bullets, damaging campus property etc.
The issue occurred over an occupied car-parking space and soon escalated into a violent clash when some of the students began pelting stones at a rival group.
Nearly 400 students, divided into two groups (those from the textile class and other NTU departments), were involved and five students were severely injured in the clash.
The NTU Girls Hostel has opened with immediate effect while the Hostels for Boys will remain closed until further notice.
