Popular messaging platform WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature which will allow users to track their friends in real-time.

Live Location Tracking, as it's currently known, has been spotted on beta versions of the app. Available on Android version 2.16.399 and iOS version 2.17.3.28, the feature will let users make their location visible in a group chat allowing group members to track each other easily during meet-ups.

Is this WhatsApp feature the answer to your prayers?

The feature, however, is disabled by default and will require users to activate it first through the app's setting menu.

Live Location Tracking has for now been limited to show locations for a period of one, two and five minutes.

iPhone users can now use WhatsApp 'without Internet'

WhatsApp already allows users to share their specific location with friends but live tracking will come as a major upgrade to the app's functionality.

However, the feature is still in its testing phase and as such there is no official word as to when and if it will be made available.
