Bilawal exudes confidence ahead of by-elections

Says father and son would make a good combination in parliament

SUKKUR/ KARACHI/PESHAWAR: Bilawal Bhutto on Thursday exuded confidence over his chances in the upcoming by-elections, foreseeing victories for both himself and his father Asif Ali Zardari and describing the two as “a good combination in parliament”.

The Pakistan Peoples Party chairman said their by-poll victories would be assured by the people.

He promised that he would make all-out efforts for the passage of the Panama Papers Inquiry Bill and would not hesitate to take to the streets if the need arose.



PPP co-chairman Zardari had announced that he and Bilawal would contest by-elections to join the incumbent parliament. Zardari is all set to contest by-elections from Nawabshah and Bilawal from Larkana.

Earlier Bilawal, flanked by MNA Faryal Talpur, senior minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, MNA Khursheed Junejo and others visited Garhi Khuda Bux to pay respects to Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto on his 89th birth anniversary.

The PPP chairperson later left for Naudero House, where he held meetings with the party leaders to carve out a strategy for the by-elections.

Meanwhile, addressing a gathering as part of the birth anniversary celebrations, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that Z A Bhutto had laid the foundation of a new Pakistan.

The CM said that Bhutto had came to power at a time when Pakistan was ‘bleeding’ after the separation of East Pakistan.

“He not only got 90,000 prisoners released but restored the dignity of the nation, made the Constitution, developed the shattered country, created job opportunities both in the country and abroad, made industrialisation and in short he laid the foundation of a new Pakistan,” he stated.

He said that Bhutto was a true leader who understood the pain and problems of people and founded PPP to ameliorate the lot of the downtrodden.

PPP held celebrations across the country to mark the birth anniversary of their founder.

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa leadership, too, celebrated the birth anniversary at the party’s provincial secretariat.

The senior party leadership including provincial president Engineer Muhammad Humayun Khan, Vice President Akhunzada Chattan, Central Vice President Khanzada Khan, former president of the party Rahamdad Khan, and Zahir Ali Shah participated in the cake-cutting ceremony along with hundreds of workers.
