The artistic and creative Sameera Raja of Canvas Gallery, shares her love for contemporary art and showcases some of her favourite pieces

How/when did you get interested in art?

Since I made the decision to join the National College of Arts at the age of 18. I guess I appreciated beauty and what can be more beautiful or fulfilling than art?

What are your favourite pieces from your gallery?

There are too many favourites, which vary according to my mood and frame of mind. Currently, I am enjoying works by Ghulam Mustafa (GM), Aamir Habib, Ayaz Jokhio, Muzzumil Raheel, Adeel uz Zafar, Muhammad Ali and Irfan Hasan.

Where did you get them?

My love started a long time ago. I am passionate about beauty captured in the form of art. My favourite pieces come from artists all over the world, or sometimes from our own show.

Share a story with us about how you acquired one of your favourite pieces:

I’m not a person for stories, I am a visual person. If I see a work of art I love and I can afford to acquire it, I don’t think about it twice.

Is there anything on your radar that you want to get in the future?

I buy through my eyes and not my ears. Neither do I buy a work of art for the name of the artist or its investment value, hence there are no parameters. At the end of the day, it is all about loving the work itself.
