Bureau has recovered Rs280 billion from the corrupt since its inception, Dar claims

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) emerged victorious in 77.6% of court cases, National Accountability Prosecutor General Waqas Qadeer Dar claimed on Friday.

Dar made the remarks while speaking to journalists in Islamabad. Since 2011, 416 accused have been convicted in connection with the cases, he said. Dar said the NAB had recovered Rs280 billion from the corrupt since its inception.

In 2010, 67 accused were convicted, in 2011, 53; in 2012, 58; in 2013, 53; in 2014, 44; in 2015, 62 and till November this year 79 had been tried by the accountability courts,he revealed.

The prosecutor general said 94 prosecutors were working in seven bureaus nationwide to expedite court proceedings. He said the NAB had put in place joint investigation teams that consisted of investigation officers and legal advisers.

“Because of the system, no single individual can influence cases. This had markedly improved the bureau's performance,” Dar added. He revealed that while the conviction rate stood at 56% in 2011, it had experienced a manifold increase to 81% over the current year till November 3o.
