I only do films to have great experiences: Arjun Rampal

Arjun Rampal opens up on career, credits co-workers for success

MUMBAI: Arjun Rampal has no qualms admitting that modelling launched his career in Bollywood. However, he recently stated that his success in Bollywood can be attributed to everyone he has worked with throughout his career as an actor.

“I think modelling got me noticed to a certain degree but I credit all the people who I have worked with for bringing me to where I am in this industry today,” he said. “I have reached far in the film industry because of the kind of people I have worked with. The actors, directors and producers have constantly put faith in me and given me chances after chances to evolve, grow and come into this position. I am just grateful that I am here.”

The 44-year-old made his acting debut back in 2001 with Rajiv Rai’s Pyaar Ishq Aur Mohabbat and has completed 15 years in the Indian film industry. Rampal has also been a part of mega projects like Don, Aankhen, Rock On!! and Ra.One as well. “Looking back, I feel grateful that I am at this position, where I am working with some of the top actors and the top directors and producers in some of the most awaited films,” shared the National Award winner.

Rampal is currently gearing up for the release of the thriller Kahaani 2, which also stars Vidya Balan. This, however, is not the first time Rampal will be seen in a thriller as he has previously worked in similar films such as D-Day, Asambhav and Ek Ajnabee.

The actor – who will soon be seen playing the role of gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli, in an upcoming film – also claimed he only acts because he wants to have great experiences.

Speaking at the special screening of his forthcoming film Daddy on Wednesday, Rampal stated, “Every film has its own journey. You do a film because you want to do it. I do a film to have a great experience of working on it.”

According to the actor, he does not base his choice of films on any set formula. “I don’t do a calculation to gauge if the film is going to be a turning point. It can be a disaster but you have to take a risk like that. To take that risk is very exciting for me.”

Asked about playing Gawli, Rampal said, “It took almost one year to figure out Arun Gawli’s life and gather a lot of information. Finally, we met him and seeing another side of his, we made up our mind to do the film.”

And how much did Rampal already know about Gawli? “I knew of him but when we started doing research, I got to know a lot more,” said the Om Shanti Om star. “The more we delved into his life, the more material came out. It was tough to compile all that information in just two hours. He has done a lot of things and to pull off all of that was a challenge for us,” he added.
