LAHORE: She is one of the most popular and controversial stars of Lollywood and now the star is back to entertain her fans with yet another skill she is set to add to her portfolio. Yes, film star Meera has officially become a director and a producer and is currently working to finalise the agenda of her first film  as a director and producer.

Oscar, the name of the film has already been registered with the Pakistan Film Producers Association and has been approved by the Ministry of Culture and other government bodies that have placed Meera in the list of filmmakers. A source close to the actor told The Express Tribune that Meera has stepped into the field to give Pakistan and the local audience a good film.

The film is set to be bilingual with both English and Urdu incorporated in it and it has been decided that the it will be shot both in Pakistan and abroad. The star will be leaving for Bangladesh shortly to find locations for her directorial debut. However, at the moment, Meera has decided not to share too many details before the right time. The actor has refused to reveal the cast. A source close to the star said that Meera herself will be playing an important role in the film.

The story of the film revolves around an actor who wants to become the best actor in the world and hence, focuses on the artiste’s struggle and efforts to achieve an Oscar. “One of the special features of the film will be its music. The best possible means will be used to prepare the best kind of music for the film,” said a member of the project.

It is important to note that Meera is not the first actor in Lollywood who has decided to become a filmmaker. Stars like Reema have also taken up their directorial skills.  Reema played director for two films and her recent one called Love Main Gum is yet to be released. The film was initially called Kitni Haseen Hain Zindagi and is said to have Indian comedian Johnny Lever playing an important role.

The film by Meera is scheduled to be completed soon and if all goes well and according to the plans, the production will be released by the end of this year.

When The Express Tribune contacted her to confirm the news, she gave no details of her upcoming endeavour but added that she hopes the film will get a good response from the audience and help bring them back to theatres.

While Lollywood actors are stepping forward into filmmaking, film critics believe that they should not make the films a one-man show. An office-bearer of Pakistan Film Producer Association said, “It is really good that Lollywood actors are coming forward to make films but they should not keep everything to themselves. You can give direction but try and get a producer for your film. So many times it happens that a name of the film is announced and registered and the film fails to be released in years. But despite everything, we wish Meera the best of luck and hope her film gets released soon and gets a good response from the audience.”

Film critic Zahid Akkasi said that a good filmmaker should have a good know-how of how the camera works. “No director can make a good film without a good camera man. Announcing the name of a film is not enough. Especially when you are handling a project all alone, it becomes difficult for you to see all the aspects and do the justice with them. Nonetheless, all of us want good movies to be made and one can only hope that Meera will come up with something original,” he added.
