Tehreema, the daughter of Indu Mitha and an accomplished dancer in her own right, said performing in Pakistan holds special significance for her.
Tabla player Ijaz Hussain and violinist Raees Khan accompanied her. A disciple of her legendary mother, she has gone on to choreography and performs around 70 original solo and ensemble dances. She creates all the accompanying music for her dances and has worked with renowned maestros such as Ashraf Sharif Khan, Hamid Khan, Shahida Parveen and Sharafat Ali Khan. She has also introduced the saxophone and western vocals into the mix for certain contemporary dancers.
A number of dance aficionados who attended the event were treated to several captivating performances by Tehreema, who was wearing an impressive South Indian sari and traditional jewellery.
Tehreema’s contemporary dance was unique as it carried a strong classical influence that really made for a sensational new look at how genres could be blended. Overall the performance was a rare treat for residents of the capital and nothing less than poetry in motion.
