Educating Pakistan: Minister calls for overhauling of exam system

ISLAMABAD: There is a need to overhaul the examination system to discourage cheating, said Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training Engineer Balighur Rehman.

“We have to improve our examination system by curbing the habit of cheating in examinations,” he said on Thursday.

Addressing a workshop on education assessment and laptop distribution ceremony at the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) in Islamabad on Thursday, the state minister announced that scholarships for bright students of matric and intermediate had been increased to Rs50,000 per year.

Pakistan is going to adopt international assessment systems by 2019, the minister added.



The minister said the prize money for matriculation examinations for top three positions has been increased to Rs100,000, Rs75,000 and Rs50,000 respectively.

For intermediate it has been increased to Rs200,000, Rs1500,000 and Rs100,000 for first three positions.

Regarding student loans, he said that students would be provided Qarz-e-Hasna for their higher studies, and they could return the loan at a rate of 5 per cent per year after starting their jobs.
