If that was not enough, the guesthouse owners have also been asked to keep details of any visitors their guests might have.
In a high-level meeting with owners of hostels and guesthouses in the capital, Superintendent of Police SP (City) Zubair Sheikh briefed them on security measures.
He asked owners and management of these organisations to maintain complete details of the guests including names, cell phone numbers, addresses, CNIC numbers, copies and the reason to visit to Islamabad.
They were further directed to collect details of those coming to visit the guests and note down the vehicle registration numbers. All these details must be submitted by the lodging facilities on a daily basis. The SP continued that patrolling police officials would also conduct surprise checks of hotels and guesthouses.
SP Sheikh explained that to ensure the effective implementation of the National Action Plan, Islamabad police was increasing vigilance and owners of these entities cannot allow any guest to stay without registering them.
Security officials and managers of the hotels and guesthouses assured complete cooperation with the police to maintain peace in the city.
Interestingly, various security and law enforcement agencies in the capital already collect this information on a daily basis with officials periodically visiting these establishments to keep tabs on guests and visitors.
Increased vigilance
Meanwhile, Islamabad Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Sajid Kiani directed officials to ensure strict vigilance and effective patrolling in their respective areas, especially around places of worship.
In his special orders, he asked officials to crackdown on criminal elements and professional beggars.
He said begging is a social evil and all efforts should be made to curb it.
Kiani ordered strict checking at entry and exit points, apart from strict security arrangements at mosques, imambargahs and markets.
Following the orders, efforts got under way to curb the menace of begging and take prompt legal action against beggars, said an Islamabad Police spokesperson. He said on Tuesday that 10 beggars were arrested over 24 hours, while a search operation was conducted in various areas. The latter resulted in the arrest of 87 suspects and three proclaimed offenders.
Similarly, police started checking vehicles and impounded 354 motorcycles as well as nine cars; all of which were being driven
without documents.
