ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) will take up the Central Power Purchase Agency’s (CPPA) petition and consider the proposal of a Rs2.76-per-unit cut in power tariff for September under the monthly fuel adjustment mechanism. Officials told APP that in the petition, the CPPA submitted to the regulator that around 10.034 billion units were sold in September costing Rs36.85 billion. The power companies charged reference fuel charges of Rs6.43per unit while the actual fuel cost remained at Rs3.67 per unit. Therefore a refund of Rs2.76 was required to be passed on to the consumers. The regulator was informed that 41.2% electricity was generated by hydel, 26% by furnace oil and 22% by gas while nuclear and diesel share remained four and one percent, respectively, during the said period.
