“All roads of the capital will be re-carpeted and widened to ensure smooth flow of traffic,” Aziz said, who also holds the additional charge of Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman. Carpeting of the 10 kilometre long Constitution Avenue is expected to be completed by November 15.
He said that while carpeting of Constitution Avenue was excluded from the PM’s Special Package, the project would be completed by utilising available resources.
Aziz said the Islamabad Municipal Corporation (IMC) was reviving its Machinery Pool Organisation (MPO) to cut project costs by utilising its own resources.
He said that bids worth over Rs180 million were received against tenders called for carpeting and repairing the road, however, it was decided to cancel the tenders and Rs90 million were saved by reviving the MPO.
“If we continue on this track, very soon MPO directorate will be turned in to a profitable formation and this will not only contribute towards the development of the city, but also help generate handsome revenue by rendering its services for other departments,” Aziz said.
Aziz noted that quality of repair and maintenance work carried out in different areas of the city, particularly thickly populated areas, under PM Special Package, was not up to the mark. He urged the officials concerned to ensure quality of work to safeguard the integrity of their departments.
