Ambassador Jilani presents dossier on IoK rights violations to US envoy

Pak stresses need for activation of UN Military Observer Group for India, Pakistan to monitor ceasefire violations

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Jalil Abbas Jilani on Tuesday shared evidence of rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir (IoK) with US special envoy Richard Olson.

"The premier's special envoys shared the carefully documented evidence of Indian brutalities and the systematic rights violations being perpetrated by the Indian forces against the innocent civilians in occupied Kashmir which was the most heavily militarised zone on earth. It was highlighted how the use of pellet guns and other prohibited weapons were being used by the Indian authorities to suppress the voice of the Kashmiri people," the Foreign Office said in a statement.



During the meeting with US special representative on Afghanistan and Pakistan and other senior officials at the US State Department, Jilani claimed that "several other fundamental rights of Kashmiris including their right to assemble, worship and practice their faith were being denied."

Ambassador Jilani further stated that being a permanent member of the UN Security Council, the US was was both legally and morally bound to play its role in ensuring that the people of Kashmir are able to exercise their right to self-determination.



"The special envoys also stressed the need for activation of the United Nations Military Observer Group for India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) to monitor the ceasefire violations by Inda," the statement added.
