Facebook is back to borrowing heavily from Snapchat -- this time in the form of its Messenger Day feature.

The feature, available only in Poland, allows users to share filter- enhanced photos and videos that last for 24 hours, a trademark Snapchat feature. Facebook has chosen Poland to roll out its new feature probably because Snapchat does not command a strong presence in the country.

“We know people come to Messenger to share everyday moments with friends and family. In Poland, we are running a small test of new ways for people to share those updates visually. We have nothing more to announce at this time,” a Facebook representative told Tech Crunch.

Instagram's Snapchat-like feature allows 24-hour-limit posts

The feature borrows heavily from Snapchat Stories, with the option to draw and add text to pictures as well. Facebook is also adding the additional option of using graphic filters as suggestions for what to share to the feature.

Facebook frequently runs tests before it rolls out a new feature. However, it’s unclear whether the social networking site plans to make the new feature available in other regions where photo-sharing apps Snapchat and Instagram have already established a strong user base.

Around 60 million people use Snapchat in the US and Canada daily, making it extremely hard for Facebook to penetrate the markets. While the new feature may not be able to sway users away from Snapchat, it does look poised to secure a foothold across regions where the mobile app is not popular.
