ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan ordered the FIA on Friday to open formal investigations against the NADRA former chairman Imtiaz Tajwar for alleged irregularities committed during his stint.

Nisar also announced plans to extend by a month the amnesty scheme being offered during the ongoing re-verification drive for another month, owing to an overwhelming response from aliens returning their Pakistani CNICs on voluntarily basis.

He also ordered the FIA to probe within one week the issue of a rented building hired for a NADRA office in Islamabad.

Nisar with the consent of NADRA’s board has also formed two committees comprising senior officials from the interior ministry and NADRA board members to review the financial and administrative powers of chairman and senior management of NADRA.

The interior ministry took these decisions while chairing a board meeting on Friday at NADRA headquarters.

During the meeting, the interior minister was informed that so far 90.5 million CNICs have been re-verified during the ongoing six-month re-verification drive and around 58,000 aliens have been discovered.
