KARACHI: Two suspected criminals were killed during separate encounters with the police in Sharafi Goth and Gulistan-e-Jauhar on Tuesday.

The Sharafi Goth police conducted a raid at the hideout of criminals in Moinabad, Landhi, on information provided by an arrested criminal. Facing massive resistance during the raid, the police retaliated.

During the exchange of fire, a suspect, identified as, Noman, was killed, while a policeman and an eight-year-old boy, Talha, who was passing by, were injured. The police also claimed to have recovered weapons from Noman's possession. SHO Nusrat Shaikh said that Noman was wanted in more than 20 cases of street crimes.

The body of the deceased and the injured cop and child were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for autopsy and medical treatment, respectively

Similarly, another suspect was killed during an exchange of fire with the police in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Police officials said the encounter took place when a group of men, riding a motorcycle, were busy looting passersby. A police patrol reached the site and tried to intercept the suspects, however, the men opened fire at them and tried to escape.

The police retaliated, killing one of the men. His body was shifted to JPMC for an autopsy and later shifted to the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth for identification purposes.
