KARACHI: Sindh education minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar took 'serious' notice of 14 higher secondary schools and colleges that obtained zero per cent in results for intermediate in arts, said a statement issued on Tuesday.

The decision came a day after the annual results for intermediate in arts were announced by the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) on Monday in which the overall pass percentage was 40%.

Dahar directed education secretary Fazlullah Pechuho and colleges director general Syed Nasir Ansar to take action against the heads of the educational institutes that have failed to produce results.

It was shocking to know that despite the provision of huge resources and teaching staff by the department, the colleges were unable to score good results in the examinations, said Dahar, directing the relevant officers to ensure the attendance of students and quality of teaching.

Meanwhile, BIEK controller of examinations Imran Khan Chishti told The Express Tribune they will be preparing a list of colleges that have been consistently performing poorly in examinations since the last three years.

"We will prepare the list by the end of November and take strict action against the colleges," he said.

Many of the 14 institutes are higher secondary schools with low enrolment, informed Ansar.

"Most institutes have four to five arts students and if they fail to pass the results of the college are automatically declared zero," he explained.
