The Islamabad metropolitan Capital (IMC) kicked off a three-day anti-polio drive in the capital on Monday.

At least 140,835 children under the age of five are expected to be administered polio drops during the duration of the campaign in different parts of the city. The IMC has chalked out a strategy to carry out the campaign under which the city has been divided into 21 different zones with 21 zonal in-charges and 107 area in-charges with at least 600 teams including 453 mobile teams.

“Workers and officials from MCI and CDA have been deployed in health services directorate and a strategy has been devised to meet the requirements of induction of manpower for polio vaccination on permanent basis,” Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz remarked while kicking off the campaign. The mayor expressed his hopes that all stakeholders will make a joint and coordinated effort for maintaining the status of polio free Islamabad.

“IMC in collaboration with other organisations will make all efforts to eradicate polio from the city so that the status of polio free Islamabad could be retained.”

A walk was also held in Sector F-11/4 earlier in the morning to raise awareness about polio.

Healthy City

Talking about efforts to boost health in the city, the mayor revealed that the city administration was in negotiations with the World Health Organisation to declare Islamabad a healthy city.

He added that IMC will upgrade all the health facilities in federal capital.
