NAB Karachi disposed 3,267 complaints in 2016

The NAB chief said the Karachi bureau was one of the watchdog’s most important regional bureaus

KARACHI: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry visited the watchdog’s Karachi bureau on Friday to review its performance. He received a detailed briefing by Karachi bureau chief Sirajul Naeem.

Naeem told Chaudhry that that NAB Karachi has disposed of 3,267 complaints this year so far. He said the number of complaints disposed in 2016 were higher than the number of complaints disposed during this period of any the previous years.

In 2016, NAB Karachi, out of 109 complaints verifications, completed 33 complaint verifications. NAB Karachi out of 151 inquiries, completed 38 whereas out of 143 investigations, 40 investigations were completed on merit. During 2016, NAB Karachi filed 50 corruption references and recovered over Rs1.3 billion.

Upon receiving the briefing, the NAB chief said the Karachi bureau was one of the watchdog’s most important regional bureaus and played a prominent role in its overall performance. He said NAB Karachi’s excellent performance in 2016 under Naeem’s supervision was better than any previous years and directed all officers to continue their hard work and exceed their current record.
