Since its launch, Facebook Live has been limited to smartphones only.

Now, it seems the social media networking site is finally bringing the feature to desktops. Facebook recently confirmed to Social Times that it had begun rolling out the feature on desktops and laptops.

Twitter launches video app for Apple and Amazon TV, Xbox One

“We’re starting to roll out the ability for people to broadcast live on Facebook from their desktop or laptop,” read a statement sent by the social media giant to Social Times. The statement came after a Facebook user Delilah Taylor noticed the Live Video option while  logged into Facebook via her laptop.

“When I first clicked live video it didn’t do anything,” Taylor said in a live video uploaded on her profile. “You gotta put in a comment and then you hit next, and when you hit next it will bring up a secondary screen, which kind of looks like a Google Hangout screen, and you can adjust your camera and microphone… Then you hit Go Live.”

Facebook and Twitter join coalition to improve news quality

A source familiar with Facebook’s plans claimed the launch of the feature was a response to demand from journalists and vloggers among other users, adding that it is currently available to select users, with more set to come on board “in the coming months”. In addition to built-in cameras on laptops, the feature also supports peripheral cameras, the source added.
