LAHORE: An additional district and sessions judge sought comments from Badami Bagh SHO on a petition filed by a man seeking action against a sub inspector for allegedly withdrawing extortion charges against a proclaimed offender in return for a bribe.

Petitioner Shaukat Ali submitted that Badami Bagh police had registered a case against nine people, two of whom were unidentified, in 2015 under Sections 425, 384, 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act. He said three of these men had been sentenced to a 10-year term. He said one of the convicts, identified as Bilal, had been declared a proclaimed offender after he escaped from the prison.

The petitioner said that recently the PO had returned from abroad and approached IO Arif Hussain to remove his name from the matter. He said later Bilal had appeared before a court to get himself discharged from the case but the court had rejected the IO’s report. He submitted that the IO had destroyed   the evidence against Bilal and requested that the police high ups should be asked to prosecute him.
