KARACHI: Shabbir Iqbal showed why he is the defending champion as he shot a stunning 10-under-par 62 in the opening round of Coca Cola Sindh Open Golf Championship 2016 at the Arabian Sea Country Club Golf Course in Karachi yesterday.

The field watched helplessly as Shabbir iqbal hit one birdie after another — 10 in total — to put daylight between himself and the chasing pack in the Rs3 million championship.

He currently enjoys a three-stroke lead over Karachi Golf Club’s second-placed Abid Rana, who carded a seven-under-par 65, and following him in their place is Gymkhana Club’s Shahid Hameed with a four-under-par 68.

Elsewhere, top-ranked Muhammad Munir logged a three-under-par 69, while Matloob Ahmed finished with a one-under-par 71.
