MULTAN: Three people died and five others were injured on Thursday in a clash between the families of a woman and a man who had eloped two years ago in Barsaabad, Rajanpur district.

Rajanpur police said on Thursday, as many as 20 men had forced entry into the Aslam’s* house and shot at his family.

Aslam and Saima, 22, had eloped two years ago and their families had been at daggers drawn with each other since. Police said the men Saima’s family had sent had tried to take her with them but Aslam’s family had resisted. The attackers opened fire at the family and Aslam’s family retaliated. Three people – Hashir and Muhammad Ali, from Saima’s family, and Alam’s brother Asghar – had died and five others were injured.

Police said they had taken the injured to the Rajanpur DHQ Hospital. The City SHO said they had stationed a large police contingent at the hospital because members of both families were being treated there.

He said the bodies would be handed over to their families after a post-mortem examination.

He said they had registered a case but had not arrested anyone so far.
