KARACHI: If you have ever doubted whether life is beautiful the makers of Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hay (ZKHH) will remind you that it truly is. The team launched the music of the upcoming film at a local hotel on Wednesday, wherein the original soundtrack of the film was revealed. The cast, which includes Sajal Ali and Feroze Khan, joined director Anjum Shahzad, co-producer Rafiq Ahmed Chaudhary and screenwriter Abdull Khaaliq on stage to unveil the CD of the music album.

Anjum insisted ZKHH is not a romantic comedy but rather a “musical, romantic emotional, family drama.” He added that the music is as much a part of the narrative as anything else. “It won’t take you out of the story. The music, the songs are part of the narrative.”

Comparing ZKHH to his previous release Mah-e-Mir, Anjum claimed that the audience wasn’t ready for the latter. “It was sort of a test. It just proved that people are not ready for such intelligent films. I had some top Indian film-makers commending me on it.”

Asked if ZKHH is a step backward in terms of intelligent cinema, Anjum disagreed. “This is not a mindless film. This is as good as anything in terms of quality. The story is not clichéd. It addresses an issue,” he shared. “It hasn’t been made in the Bollywood style either. I believe that whatever we do should have a Pakistani essence to it, even if it’s just an item song.”

Well-known names, such as Bollywood singer Sukhwinder Singh, Roxen frontman Mustafa Zahid, Soch the band, along with a relatively new Karachi-based band called Udan Khatola, have lent their skills to the music. Following the reveal, the artists performed their respective tracks on stage.

Zahid impressed the audience with a live rendition of Udaasi, Soch with Tootiya Tara and Udan Khatola with Manqabat (Ali Ali), all garnering cheers from the crowd. The rest of the tracks include the title song crooned by Adnan Dhool and Momina Mustehsan, Kitni Baar by Sukhwinder Singh, Chulbul by Bilal Saeed and Sana Zulfiqar and a sad version of Udaasi by Mustafa again.

ZKHH revolves around a young couple — a film-maker and a model – who get married during college and how their lives are turned around by complications such as early pregnancy and professional struggles. The film is expected to hit screens this Eidul-Azha, on September 13.
