Rooting out terrorism: Major powers urged to play their role

Major powers have been urged to play their role to resolve the simmering issues in Muslim countries to arrest the tide of extremism and root out terrorism. “The total eradication of terrorism and extremism is only possible through unity of peaceful forces. Western countries and the US should demonstrate seriousness in resolving the tensions in some Muslim countries,” said Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Chairperson Tahir Ashrafi, while talking to delegates of different religions and sects here on Wednesday. He said that the attacks in France, Germany and other European countries were a bid to create rift among believers of different religions. “The world leadership should demonstrate maturity and devise an explicit strategy to contain such happenings in the future,” Ashrafi said. “Unless major powers intervened to stop cruelties against civilians in Syria, Iraq and Kashmir, peace will elude the whole world,” Ashrafi said.
