Up the ladder: Six air commodores promoted as AVMs

All officers have held key assignments during their career at PAF.

ISLAMABAD: The government has promoted air commodores to the rank of air vice marshal, the PAF directorate of media affairs announced on Tuesday.

The promoted officers are Muhammad Athar Shams, Aamir Masood, Sarfraz Khan, Nadeem Tariq, Fawad Yunus Hussain and Shahab Shafqat.

Athar Shams was commissioned in PAF in April 1987. He is a qualified flying instructor. He holds a Master’s degree in war studies and defence management.

Aamir Masood was commissioned in January 1988. He has commanded a fighter squadron, a fighter wing and an operational air base. He holds a Master’s degree in Strategic Studies and MS in Defence Analysis (USA).

Sarfraz Khan was commissioned in January 1988. He has commanded a fighter squadron, a fighter wing and an operational air base. He holds a master’s degree in strategic studies.

Nadeem Tariq was commissioned in the engineering branch of PAF in April 1987. He has served as chief engineer and director JF-17 co-production project. He holds master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from China and participated in Design/Development of JF-17 aircraft.

Fawad Yunus was commissioned in the engineering branch of PAF in April, 1987. He has commanded an engineering wing and also served as director weapon system management (Mirage). He holds a master’s degree in national security and war studies from National Defence University.

Shahab Shafqat was commissioned in the engineering branch of PAF in January 1988. He has commanded an engineering depot and served as director avionics at the Air Headquarters.

He is currently serving as Assistant Chief of Air Staff (electronics) at the Air Headquarters. He holds a master’s degree in strategic studies from the Air War College.
