ORAKZAI:

Security forces killed five militants in an exchange of fire in Lower Orakzai Agency on Thursday.

Militants attacked a checkpost in Karghan Town of Lower Orakzai. One security official was martyred in the ambush.

Security forces returned fire and killed five militants in retaliatory fire.

On Saturday, at least five people were killed and 19 others injured when suicide bombers detonated explosives-laden trucks inside a tunnel and at its entrance in Kohat.

Pakistan’s northwest and tribal areas have been wracked by violence since hundreds of Taliban and al Qaeda fighters sought refuge there after the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.

The government has claimed a number of military successes against the militant hardliners during the last two years, but attacks continue across the country and are concentrated in the northwest.
