Development plan: Chaklala board approves Rs1.55 billion budget

Cantonment board expects revenues of Rs596 million

RAWALPINDI: The Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB) approved a Rs1.55 billion annual budget for the fiscal year 2016-2017. The budget now awaits the approval of the military lands and cantonment boards director-general.

A total of 25 CCB members attended the meeting that passed the budgetary estimates for the next fiscal year.

The CCB also expects to receive Rs596 million in revenue from various fees and taxes. The board will get Rs1.5 million from realisation of special act, Rs 283.925 million from property taxes, and Rs53 million from miscellaneous revenues.

The board will also get Rs15.5 million in grants, contributions, and security deposits, and Rs401.5 million from extraordinary sources and debts. The CCB will have a proposed opening balance of Rs200 million.

According to budget documents, available with The Express Tribune, the board will spend Rs437.479 million under the establishment head, Rs455.671 million under contingencies, Rs293.275 million under original works, and Rs135 million on maintenance and repairs. The closing balance is estimated at Rs230 million.

Talking to The Express Tribune, CCB Vice-President Raja Irfan Imtiaz said that the elected members had proposed different development works worth Rs500 million. He said that the development schemes would be related to sewerage, roads, street lights, buildings, and provision of medicines to different dispensaries.

The VP said the board was able to meet necessary expenditure through its own resources. He added that the elected members had gotten special grants for their constituencies, and that local PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi and MNA Malik Abrar had also promised to provide special grants. He said they had also requested the prime minister and the Punjab chief minister to provide special packages for cantonment areas in Rawalpindi.

Raja Irfan Imtiaz noted that the board had approved the purchase of two compactors for sanitation work, two dump trucks, a vacuum truck, and 10 small vehicles to carry waste material.

The VP further said that the board had also approved the upgrading of a primary school in Tariqabad to high school level. He added that CCB would be able to complete a 45-shop complex in Lal Kurti.

Mohammad Baig | 7 years ago | Reply Good news if the budget is practiced fair,free and transparent and the people are facilitated.It needs major attention on the board for water safety and other sanitation issues the major source of diseases in the town and the remote areas.
