Maira Hashmi, social media coordinator at Momina Teli, unlocks her vault to share some of her favourite classic and contemporary jewellery pieces

How and when did you get interested in jewellery?

I’ve always been passionate about jewellery, as it makes all the difference when putting a look together.  When I was a child, I used to own beaded necklaces and bracelets in literally every colour. As I grew up, I moved on to my mother’s jewels – and then to finally owning my very own pieces.

What are your favourite pieces of jewellery (precious or costume)?

To be honest I love all kinds of jewellery, it really depends on my mood. For a fun day out with friends, I would make a statement with contemporary Outhouse earrings or a necklace. If I feel like adding an ethnic touch to my outfit, I would opt for a traditional polki set and for an elegant look I usually go for my timeless diamond earrings and bangles – so my taste in jewellery is really just about what I’m feeling on that particular day.

Where did you get these pieces?

Some have been bought from trendy jewellery designers like Outhouse, while some are family heirlooms or have been as gifts by my parents from various jewellers.

Is there any piece you are emotionally attached to and why?

I have a gold locket with my name engraved on it in Arabic. It’s special to me because I bought it in Mecca on my first Umrah. It’s a reminder of a great memory, so I’ll always be attached to it!

Share a story with us about how you acquired one of your favourite pieces?

My father gifted my sister and I our first pieces of jewellery at my older sister’s wedding. These diamond earrings will always be my favourite, because they’re a classic work of art; obsessed with them, they are so timeless!

Is there anything on your radar that you want to get in the future?

A bunch of things actually – one of them has to be the Panthère de Cartier ring in emeralds and diamonds
