ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) deferred on Thursday verdict in the case against the gunman responsible for the infamous “Islamabad standoff”, Muhammad Sikandar, his wife Kanwal and his weapon supplier till June 22.

ATC judge Syed Kausar Abbas Zaidi had fixed the date for pronouncement of judgement but for unspecified reasons, he deferred it till June 22.

On August 15, 2013, Sikandar armed with two sub-machine guns and accompanied with his wife and two children, had driven into the middle of Constitution Avenue in the evening, where he fired on the police and started a standoff.

Separately, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued notice to the federation on the petition of ex-Hajj director-general Rao Shakeel challenging imprisonment sentence in the “Hajj Corruption case”. IHC Chief Justice Muhammad Anwar Khan Kasi, issued notice after the hearing.

Moreover, Justice Athar Minallah issued notices to the Ministry of Information Technology, Telecom Foundation, Pak Datacom and its chief executive with directions to submit a reply within 15 days.

The notices were issued in connection with petitions against the appointment of managing director in Pak Datacom and firing of the chief financial officer from the company without issuing a show cause.

Also, an accountability court extended physical custody remand of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director Shafqat Ali for four days to the NAB over his alleged involvement in accumulating assets beyond known sources of income.
