LAHORE:

Criminals abusing technology to further their own ends are to blame for a spike in crime, FIA Punjab Cyber Wing Deputy Director Syed Shahid Hassan said on Friday.  Hassan made the remarks while speaking at a seminar on cyber crime and social media ethics at the UET. He said this should be a cause of concern for everyone. Hassan said the incidence of crime involving information technology and gadgets was rising. “Using IT to stoke disharmony has left norms, values and traditions imperilled,” Hassan said.  He said many citizens became victims of cyber crime due to paucity of knowledge on this account. “People should be aware about cyber crime, its forms and its consequences. This will curb crime and facilitate constructive use of IT,” Hassan said. The FIA functionary also briefed those present on the work of the agency’s cyber crime wing. He also spoke about laws that were being revamped to curb cyber crime. Hassan exhorted the people to cooperate with law enforcement agencies saying they had been formulated just to secure and facilitate citizens.
