LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Saturday continued to crackdown on the production and sale of substandard eatables across the city.

The authority’s Samanabad food safety officer under the supervision of PFA Operations Director Ayesha Mumtaz sealed Lahori Milk Shop on Wahdat Road for selling adulterated milk. Its Data Ganj Baksh Town officials sealed Bismillah Kharal Milk Shop and Data Ali Hajveri Milk Shop for using antiquated barrels to store milk.

The PFA’s Ravi Town officials sealed Shahdara’s Baba Jalaluddin Mutton Channay for using dirty boxes. The establishment had a washroom located near space where food was being made and its chillers were filthy. Eatables were also stored in a squalid environment.

The authority’s Aziz Bhatti Town food safety officers fined Riaz Hotel and Sheikh Juice Corner in Cantt for poor cleanliness standards. Its Samanabad officials fined Bund Road’s Makhan Hotel for similar reasons. Freezers at the establishment were broken and filthy. Scores of flies were observed sitting on eatables there.

The PFA Ravi Town food safety officers fined Jhoolay Lal Hotel for failing to adequately cover food products. The authority’s Allama Iqbal Town officials fined a restaurant in Johar Town area for poor cleanliness standards.

The authority’s Nishtar Town officials fined Gourmet Caterers and Pak Madina Sweets. Both establishments were using dirty freezers and had failed to cover food products.

Fining the establishments, PFA officials directed them to revamp hygiene standards.

The PFA’s Samanabad and Ravi Town officials conducted raids across popsicle and juice points in their jurisdictions and discarded a large amount of juices made with saccharine, which has a strong correlation with cancer.
