Stuart Law frontrunner for Pakistan head coach

Englishman Andy Moles is named as back-up option by PCB

Former Australian cricketer Stuart Law is being named as the frontrunner for Pakistan head coach.

Although, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan refused to reveal the name of the head coach on Tuesday after the Board of Governors’ (BoG) meeting, Law’s name is circulating in the media for the post.

The Press Trust of India (PTI) on Wednesday quoted a member of the BoG as saying that Law was the unanimous choice and Englishman Andy Moles was named as a back-up option.



“Andy Moles is the back-up as the PCB has to sort out some issues with Law because of his prior coaching commitments,” the BoG member told PTI.

Law is presently preparing for an assignment as batting consultant to the Australian team for the Sri Lanka tour in July-August. He submitted his application for the post of head coach before the April 25 deadline.



The 47-year-old has represented Australia in one Test and 54 ODIs. His successful campaigns as a coach include victories with native Queensland side in the Sheffield Shield competition and with Essex and Lancashire in England.

Earlier on Tuesday, Shaharyar said they have decided the name of the new head coach but refused to reveal the name to the media. “We have finalised the new head coach but I cannot tell you his name,” said Shaharyar, as quoted by Express News. “He can be a local candidate or a foreigner.”



“We will name the coach within two days after due consultation. Everyone has forwarded his opinion during the meeting,” he added.

The position of Pakistan head coach was left vacant after Waqar Younis’ departure on April 4 following dismal Asia Cup and World T20 performances.
