KARACHI: Raees alias Mama, a proclaimed offender who was arrested in Dubai by intelligence agencies, was reportedly brought back to Pakistan on Monday.

However, no law enforcement agency has so far confirmed the news. Mama is believed to be a hardcore member of a notorious militant wing of a political party. He was also accused of playing a key role in the violence of May 12, 2007 in Karachi.

The May 12 tragedy was one of the grimmest incidents in the history of Karachi when, on the arrival of then Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Chaudhry, more than 40 people were killed in armed clashes between workers of different political parties.

Several of Mama’s accomplices have already been arrested in Karachi during the ongoing operation in the city; however, one of his close aides, Saeed Barham was recently arrested and brought back to the country from Dubai by intelligence agencies.

Mama was believed to be in hiding in Dubai, South Africa, and other countries since the Rangers and police launched Karachi operation on September 5, 2013.
