Attack on Junaid Jamshed: Case registered against unknown persons

The religious preacher has been accused of committing blasphemy in December 2014

The Airport police on Monday registered a case against unknown persons for assaulting singer-turned-religious avengelist Junaid Jamshed.


The police registered the case under section 506 (criminal intimidation) and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the Pakistan Penal Code on a complaint of Jamshed. The police said that they were looking for the men who had assaulted the singer-turned-evangelist.

In his complaint, Jamshed said that some seven to eight unknown men assaulted him outside the airport lounge soon after he arrived from Karachi on Saturday night.

Later, the police escorted him to his residence in Islamabad.

The religious preacher has been accused of committing blasphemy in December 2014. Jamshed, however, later apologised over his comments.

On Sunday, the police said that Jamshed was not cooperating with them in arresting the attackers.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had taken note of the incident and directed the police to register a case.
