BAHAWALPUR:

Pakistan’s corrupt politicians and bureaucrats have left the nation’s roots hollow, Dr Syed Wasim Akhtar, Jamaat-i-Islami’s parliamentary leader in the Provincial Assembly, said on Wednesday at a protest camp set up at by the JI at Fawara Chowk.

He said the JI had launched an awareness campaign to rally people against corrupt leaders and demand a “corruption-free Pakistan”.

Billions of rupees are being leached away by corrupt leaders, he said. “The system protects these corrupt elements,” he lamented. “Black money is being whitened…even lifesaving drugs are being adulterated…all under the government’s nose.”

JI city ameer Syed Zeeshan Akhtar said the Corruption-Free Pakistan campaign would continue till corruption was rooted from the country. He said the JI had established camps at One Unit Chowk and Shahdra Chowk. “We will hold a demonstration in this regard at Fareed Gate.”

The JI will organise a three-day event in Lahore on April 8, 9 and 10 to raise awareness about the campaign. Pakistan is beset with several problems, he said. “Rampant corruption is the biggest one.”
