PESHAWAR: An orientation session was held at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s provincial secretariat to discuss plans for intra-party elections for the women wing, stated a handout issued on Thursday.

The event was held a day after intra-party elections were announced for the party’s youth and women wings.

Participants were briefed by Mehnaz Rafi and Shamsha Ali, members of the party’s election commission, on the procedure for election.

Many participants raised concerns over the dearth of awareness about the procedures involved in the election.

“They requested the deadline to obtain membership for PTI’s women wings be extended in light of new developments,” stated the handout. Ali said the request would be discussed with the chief election commissioner.

Recommendations were also sought on “the portfolios on which election should be held”.

Separate electorate

According to the handout, Rafi said only women wing members will be able to vote in women wing elections. A similar procedure has been put in place for youth wing voting as well. The same will be done for the party’s lawyer wing.

“The decision to hold elections in Insaf Student Federation, labour and minority wings are still under consideration,” said Rafi.

As per the handout, similar orientation sessions will be held in Islamabad, Karachi and various parts of Balochistan.

PTI’s election commission was also asked to take notice of candidates who engage in pre-poll rigging.
