Adult films in Pakistan

May 03, 2010

KARACHI: Frankly speaking I am not all that surprised by the moral outrage being shown by readers in response to your article “Inside Pakistan’s adult film industry” (Magazine, May 2).

Many seem to have been offended by the mere fact that the article was printed. The fact is that this will not make this go away. The reporter, Fawad Ali, has done a very good job and it is laudable that you published it.

If you don't think these things go on in our country, you must live in La-La Land. For many years physical abuse and violence, whether in homes or the work-place, was not even spoken of. I am gratified to see that we now talk about it openly and am proud that members of my family have established homes for abused women and children. I salute their courage, outspokeness and commitment. Today we also recognize the rights of the handicapped to be cared for in special schools instead of hiding them from society.
